I helped produce Heartland, a 30-minute documentary that was themed around ‘The Singapore Story” and it was commissioned by MDA in 2015 as part of SG50 Jubilee celebrations.

Heartland captures the kampong spirit amongst the Dakota Cresent residents as they come together to celebrate the unique neighborhood in the last remaining days leading up to its redevelopment plans in 2016. Demolition was put on hold due to Covid-19 circuit breaker and the estate was finally demolished in 2020. Read more here.

This documentary project sparked my fascination with the way housing and spaces are planned in Singapore and how people lived and interacted in them. Now when I walk through neighbourhoods, I take a moment to relive some of those heartland memories and try to capture some of its life.

Here is a collection of the various scenes of life in Singapore – shot on the Huji app.
