Books and Treats
Books & Treats is a local traveling book swap event with art & crafts in Singapore aimed at children aged 4 to 12 years old.
This idea was born from our simple love and enjoyment of reading and buying (too many) books.
In the digital age, we believe that physical books remain an enduring medium and offer numerous benefits to your children.
I Would Rather Read
I have been exposed to reading since young as my Mom read to my brother and me every night. (Forever grateful to you, Mom!) Each book came alive with my imagination where the world is filled with joy and infinite possibilities of good things. Till today, I fondly remember the stories she told us while we were happily tucked into bed.
Some of my favourite children’s books include:
- Berenstain Bears series by Stan and Jan Berenstain
- Chrysanthemum and Mouse book series by Kevin Henkes
- The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
- Mog the Cat series by Judith Kerr
- Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne
- Frog and Toad series by Arnold Lobel
What was imparted to me was a strong and simple love for the English language and for words. I like how a string of abstract words can paint solid pictures, and I like it when I have exactly the right word to describe how I feel or what I am experiencing. It’s almost, as if, I can make sense of my world when I am able to express it.
I started out 2021 with a personal mission to challenge myself to read more fiction so I can push myself to imagine and dream again. (I disappear into a non-fiction book quicker than you can say, chicken puff). And I’ve decided to share the clever, inspiring, thoughtful words by book authors I have enjoyed reading.
Instead of playing computer games & Pokémon Go, I would rather read. Open to book recommendations and book discussions!
